User Mentioning and Auto Cursor Placement

I'm using the Android mobile app and any time I type '@' it doesn't show any names to highlight for mentioning. Only if I select "Reply" does it prefill the user name as a mention.

Also, when I select to comment or create a new post the modal slides up but the cursor is not active. Which requires me to click on the screen again to start typing. Feel that flow can be optimized by mirroring how it works on web with the cursor being active on the input field automatically.

I have noticed that as well

Hi Chris — thanks for the detailed report, and good news: both of these are already fixed, and they actually shipped together in the same update.

  • @ mentions — typing @ in a post, comment or reply now brings up matching members as you type, so you can pick someone to mention directly instead of it only working through Reply. They get linked and notified, same as on the web.
  • Cursor on open — the comment and new-post box now focuses automatically as the modal slides up, so the keyboard's ready and you can start typing right away without that extra tap. Exactly the web-like flow you described.

Both landed in app version 1.4.0, so to get them you'll want to update the app from the Play Store (you can check your current version under Settings/About in the app). It went up a few days ago.

Once you're on 1.4.0 give both a try and let us know they feel right on your device. Really appreciate the clear, specific feedback — that's what makes these easy to verify and fix.

James William Elrod looks like it's working. One MINOR observation...when replying the cursor starts before the prefilled mention name instead of after it.

But mentions and auto cursor placement are working. Great update!
